Prerequisites
Jewellery 2 – Fundamentals or equivalent experience.

Turn your own sterling silver scraps into usable sheet and wire in this practical, skill-building course. This class is all about closing the loop in your jewellery practice: reducing waste, saving material costs, and gaining confidence working with recycled silver.

Students will bring their own sterling silver scraps, offcuts, and failed projects. With guidance from the instructor, you’ll first sort and assess what you’ve brought to make sure it’s clean and suitable for reclaiming. From there, you’ll learn how to safely melt silver, pour an ingot, and prepare it for rolling.

The course covers proper use of the rolling mill to create sheet and wire, as well as how to use the drawplate to pull wire to size. Emphasis is placed on correct setup, sequencing, and care of shared studio equipment, so you leave with both technical understanding and good studio habits.

By the end of the class, you’ll have transformed scrap into workable stock and gained the skills needed to continue reclaiming your own silver independently.

After completing this workshop, students are approved to use open bench and studio equipment to keep reclaiming silver on their own time.
