Irene Corman

Irene Corman’s work has been informed by studies in Fine Art History and Anthropology, by teaching Art and Applied Design, through extensive travel, studying with fine teachers, and most influentially, by observations in nature, both through a camera lens and the naked eye.

In her work, any one piece may reflect a number of techniques necessary to fulfil an idea, and often, as the piece emerges, other ideas come to life. Not surprisingly, when the work feels successful, it aligns with the Principles of Design and often reflects textures and patterns found in nature. Sometimes, the work is simply an enactment of bright and expansive colour.

She has been working with polymer clay for about 12 years and has shown and sold her work locally and abroad, notably at the Victoria Art Gallery Shop, the Sooke Fine Arts Show, the Gallery at Mattick’s Farm, and to personal buyers.

As a lifelong educator, Irene especially enjoys introducing students of all ages to the experience and sense of accomplishment that creating can bring, particularly in a medium as versatile as polymer clay, not to mention the pride in wearing or gifting a finished piece.
