No experience necessary
This class introduces the possibilities of polymer clay and foundational ways of working with the material. You will learn how to condition the clay for optimal use, as well as the tools needed for cutting, texturing, layering, imprinting, applying, shaping, and molding—alongside your most important tools: your hands and your eyes.
Colour blending is a study in itself and will be part of your learning, whether creating new colours or combining those already in use. The class will also cover surface and structural design, with attention to wearability. Proper firing is fundamental to successful polymer clay work, as are finishing techniques that affect both appearance and durability. Finishing may include sanding and buffing.
Finally, you will learn how to present your work by hanging pieces on cords, earring wires, or string, based on the intention of the pieces you create.
By the end of this class, you will leave not only with a piece you have created yourself, but also with the skills to continue exploring polymer clay on your own. You will also be ready to join our Polymer Clay Level 2 class, where more advanced techniques will be taught.
