Learn and develop the essential foundational skills of traditional silversmithing in this slower-paced course with instructor Jana Stevenson.
Over the 6 weeks, Jana will guide you through the fundamental skills of sawing, drilling, forming, filing, sanding, several soldering techniques, various ways of polishing and finishing, and making your own findings! There will be plenty of time to practice this wide array of techniques to let them sink in.
You will learn the skills to enable you to design and fabricate a ring, pendant or pair of earrings during the last two classes of the course which you, of course, get to keep! In addition to the final project of your own design, there are a couple of projects that include a textured sterling silver ring band, and samples from the various techniques learned.
This is an extended in-depth course, perfect for the beginner wishing to develop a solid foundation of the tools and techniques of silversmithing.
What our students have to say:
“Great atmosphere and knowledgeable instructors. No lack of information or solutions, well organized”
“I now feel that I have a good base to start this new part of my artistic endeavours. I think it was well presented with just the right touch of humour and patience”
“I loved that we worked on the same project generally, but Jana helped customize to suit our unique styles”
